Edward D. Halbert (b. 1846) was a sheep rancher in Tulare County (Calif.). He came to California from Missouri (1873) and later settled in the Porterville district of Tulare County (1881) where he pastured 800 sheep on more than 1200 acres along Deer Creek. Halbert married Ellen Rhodes, the daughter of a neighbor. Another local sheep rancher, Spencer Fay, who is represented by Holt Atherton collection MSS 2 .F282, married Mrs. Halbert's sister.
